Melville Year 7-13 College
Tumuaki Appointment
After an extensive recruitment process it is with great pleasure that I can announce on behalf of the Establishment Board of the new Melville Year 7-13 College, our new Tumuaki/Principal, Dr Thilo Govender.
Thilo joins us from Morrinsville College where she has been the Deputy Principal for 11 years and has also been the Lead Principal of the Morrinsville Kāhui Ako.
Thilo has a Doctorate in Philosophy, Educational Leadership and Management and an extensive background in education including work in the UAE and UK.
Thilo’s start date will be in January 2023 and she will be introduced to the community at our next community meeting in early 2023.

Deputy Principals Appointments
It is with great pleasure that I announce the appointment of our Deputy Principals who will join the Senior Leadership Team of our new Melville Year 7-13 College. Joining our Tumuaki/Principal, Thilo Govender, in January 2023, will be, Louise Handley, Peter O’Leary, Heemi Walker and Samantha Farook.
Peter and Heemi are currently in the Senior Leadership Team at Melville High School, and we will work with the High School to ensure a smooth transition at the beginning of Term 1 2023. Louise joins us from Melville Intermediate School where she is the current Deputy Principal, and Samantha is moving from Morrinsville College where she has been a Leader of Learning in the Science Department.
All candidates impressed the board with their passion and desire to make our new school the school of choice for the Hamilton South area.
This is another exciting step as we continue our journey of resetting education in the Hamilton South area and move forward to our new school in 2024. The new Senior Leadership Team will be introduced at a community meeting in February where we will also have further updates on our work so far.
