1.From the Acting Tumuaki
I am looking forward to working with you all. I grew up in Ohaupo and so I am familiar with the area and enjoy being here. My most recent job was being principal at Huntly College. I loved that too. I have also been principal at Albany Senior High, Te Awamutu College and Ngaruawahia High School. I am excited about the potential for Mangakōtukutuku College.
We are making quite significant changes to the timetable for next term. If you read on you will see the reasons for that. It is important at this stage to get the students settled into positive routines which will support their learning. We will be talking with the students about the changes and it would be great if you talked with them as well so that the changes do not come as a surprise for them on the first day back after the holidays.
2. Kāhui Ako Teacher Only Day
Te Kāhui Ako o Mangakōtukutuku is running a staff Professional Learning and Development day on Friday 5 July 2024. Our school will therefore be closed for instruction on this day.
3.Assessment
Over the next week we will be running various assessments for our Year 7 to 11 students. These assessments will focus on Reading, Writing and Numeracy. The data gathered from these assessments will allow our teachers to tailor their programs to meet the specific needs of individuals in their classes.
Year 10 and 11 students will have an opportunity to complete a practice Common Assessment Activity. The Literacy and Numeracy co-requisites are essential for every student to pass NCEA Level 1. The formal assessments will run in September of this year.
4.Timetable Changes
The attached document gives you an overview of the changes and the rationale behind these changes.
